This work is part of Hélène Vac’s ongoing exploration of the landscapes of Arcachon Bay, where colour becomes a tool for transforming perception and atmosphere.

Dark violet pine silhouettes stand in the foreground, cutting across the composition and framing the view. Beyond them, a vivid pink sea meets a flesh-toned sky, creating an imagined light suspended between dawn and dusk. A few boats scattered along the horizon provide scale and anchor the scene in a recognisable coastal setting.

Developed from photographs and memories reworked in the studio, the painting moves away from direct observation. Colour no longer describes reality but constructs a new visual experience. The contrast between the dark pines and the luminous horizon compresses space and intensifies the presence of light.

Through simplified forms, visible gesture, and bold colour relationships, Hélène Vac explores the boundary between figurative landscape painting and abstraction. The work invites the viewer into a suspended moment, where memory, sensation, and imagination merge within a reimagined vision of the Atlantic coast.
