Hélène VAC, FRANCE
Description of the Artwork
This series develops an approach to landscape that is both figurative and non-objective. In line with the principles formulated by Henri Matisse, Colour = Space = Light, the work explores recurring motifs such as the Dune du Pilat, Arcachon Bay, pine trees, and coastal reeds through bold, flat areas of vivid colour.
The practice engages with the role of gesture and what remains of it on the canvas. The aim is not to describe a landscape, but to convey its physical sensations, air, wind, movement.
The memory of a past impression merges with present experience, in a painting where colour becomes space and the landscape emerges between perception and memory.
