Study on paper based on a landscape captured in July at Pereire Beach in Arcachon.

The composition is structured by the pine trunks, intersected by the horizon line, forming an almost grid-like framework through which the bright yellow of the sea, here Arcachon Bay, filters and rises toward the surface of the painting, blurring the reading of spatial planes.

The trunks, dense, in brown and violet, stand in contrast with the yellow, reinforcing the chromatic tension. The main vertical lines of the landscape, pines, vegetation, shoreline, are emphasised with assertive red ochre pastel, enhancing the material presence of the foreground.

Touches of powder pink soften this contrast and temper the overall composition.
