Biography

Presentation

My work explores the vulnerability of the relationship between human beings and their surroundings. I investigate the notion of the trace—whether in landscapes, built environments, or nature—seeking what lies between what remains, what disappears, and what could exist.

I am particularly interested in how lived experience is reconstructed, at the intersection of facts, dreams, and interpretations. With a background in architecture, my practice engages with specific sites: I transform them, searching for materials that reveal traces of lived experience, and then create installations that evoke the vulnerability of existence and the fragility of time’s processes.

I work across photography, installation, drawing, and text.

“In her work, Claire Laude delicately combines and navigates between drawing, spatial intervention, architecture, and nature. The complexity of these different elements is dissected and poetically transformed, then reconstructed into silent, photographic narratives. From drawings incised into wood or clay to eroded window frames reassembled into fragile architectures, her arrangements—constructed in abandoned places—reveal ‘Rest Landscapes’ (Per Kirkeby) of a former nature, appearing at once both living and dead.” (2023)

About

As an architect and artist, I develop long-term projects that explore the perception and memory of a place over several years. These sites share a history of having been shaped by traumatic events—such as war, fire, or other forms of destruction. I conduct research into their historical, geographical, and sociological contexts, and carry out interviews with residents and architects. I am interested in how lived experience becomes embedded in a space and continues to be perceived, even as its traces or history become invisible.

From 2016 to 2020, I worked on the myth of the city of Kaliningrad/Königsberg. This project brings together photographs, drawings, installations, a text, and a publication produced in collaboration with Essarter Editions. It was awarded the Urbanautica Architecture, Spaces and Conflicts Prize in 2019.

From 2020 to 2025, I was involved in the scientific project PyroPop, a collaboration between eight research institutions studying the potential for forest regeneration after fire. In 2023, I discussed this topic with researcher and scientist Chiraz Belhadj Khedher during a conference at the Institut français in Tunis. This work was also presented in 2022 in an exhibition at Galerie im Körnerpark in Berlin, and in 2025 it received support from the Gruppenstipendium at Künstlerhaus Ahrenshoop.

In 2024 and 2025, I traveled twice to Narva, Estonia, on the Russian border. Deeply marked by the history of this city and its inhabitants, I am currently developing a project that addresses themes of borders, belonging, and exile.
