"L'art est la voie par laquelle l’inconscient se rend visible. L’artiste qui permet à l’inconscient de se manifester dans son travail nous aide à reconnaître des aspects inconnus de nous-mêmes. Chaque image artistique est une clef permettant d'ouvrir une porte vers des dimensions plus profondes et souvent ignorées de notre psyché, vers des forces archétypales qui influencent notre vie de manière inconsciente." C.J. Jung, Le Secret de la Fleur d’Or

Biography

Presentation

Born in 1990, Hélène Planquelle is a self-taught artist and muralist whose background in the humanities provides the fertile ground for the literary, philosophical, and spiritual references that permeate her work. Deeply shaped by her encounter with Carl Jung’s depth psychology, her practice explores the archetypes of the Self, the union of opposites, and the territories of the shadow—both within ourselves and as they are projected onto the world—giving rise to symbolic and archetypal works that address the collective unconscious.

Her work has been presented in numerous solo and group exhibitions in galleries and art fairs across France, Italy, Portugal, Switzerland, and the United States. Her artworks have entered the collections of the PsycheFuturoInnovazione Foundation in Bergamo, Italy, and the Fondation des Artistes Femmes de Lausanne. She has also created large-scale murals on building façades in France and throughout Europe.

In the studio, Hélène Planquelle works primarily with oil on canvas or wood, as well as glass, Plexiglas, and epoxy resin, pursuing a material-based exploration of sensory richness, depth, and evocative presence through a dialogue with realism and matter. On walls, she adapts her brush-based technique to preserve the painterly quality of her work, translating her classical aesthetic into a monumental scale.

About

A self-taught painter, the artist owes her intellectual curiosity and thirst for knowledge to her literary studies and humanistic education. Initially drawn to literature and philosophy, she gradually turned toward an ever-expanding range of fields that now nourish the ethical and existential inquiry at the heart of her work. Deeply symbolic in nature, her practice is rooted in a rich constellation of philosophical, literary, and religious references, spanning disciplines from ethics and social sciences to Jungian psychoanalysis, attachment theory, the study of sacred texts, and foundational myths.

Through her various technical processes, Hélène Planquelle pursues an exploration of the physical aura of the artwork and the transformative power of symbolic images, within an approach that repositions art alongside religion and spirituality as a tool for the quest for meaning. In recent years, she has expanded her practice through the creation of monumental murals, allowing her to deploy her visual universe and aesthetic language at an architectural scale, offering increasingly immersive and engaging artistic experiences, and embracing a holistic artistic approach.

Finally, by drawing upon founding narratives, ancestral myths, and archetypal figures, Hélène Planquelle’s work seeks to reconnect the contemporary world with the deep foundations of timeless human experience. At the same time, it maintains a strong intertextual dimension through the many quotations from which the titles of her various series are drawn—a true treasure hunt for those willing to reassemble the thousand and one fragments of her vision of the world.
